the work to complete #15 has left scars in server.c and proto-irc.c. there are some systems that were damaged, and there is a mess of excessive lifecycle functions. the server connection code needs to be refactored, so that redundant lifecycle functions can be merged and removed.
It's a bit quiet in here.
